1996 : Creation of part -time Research Fellow instituted. Scheme of Computerisation of pre-1857 records launched. Endowment lectures organized. Archives recognised as 'Research Centre in Modern History by the University og Madras.
Important Leaves
In G.O.No.158,Public Department, dated 03.03.1906,it was ordered that the nomenclature of "Black Town" in the then Madras(now Chennai),be changed to "George Town".
